Solar & energy / Otago

Solar panels and batteries for Dunedin and Otago.

Our Dunedin solar electricians start with the power you use. A workshop running machinery during the day has a different brief from a home charging a car overnight. Send a bill and tell us what you’d like the system to cover.

Solar assessment / First step

Start with your power bill.

Your bill shows what you bought and what it cost. Tell us when you use the most power and whether backup matters. We’ll explain what we can tell from the bill, and whether half-hourly usage or a site visit would help before we price anything.

Upload my power bill A PDF, photo or retailer usage file is fine. You can cover bank and account details.

No bill handy?

Start with a rough figure.

Choose your usual monthly spend in NZ dollars, or leave it unsure. This gives us context for a conversation. A winter bill alone won’t tell us how much solar you’d use in summer.

Solar on the land

When the roof isn’t the best spot.

A ground array can sit closer to the useful sun or leave a working roof free. The land, winter shade and cable route back to the switchboard all affect the design.

Planning a system

Where to start.

01

Solar for home or business

When are the workshop doors open? When does the hot water heat? If you have a recent bill or half-hourly usage from your retailer, we can look at how much generation you’re likely to use on site. We also check shading and space on the roof or ground.

02

Adding a battery

If you already have panels, send us the inverter model and a recent power bill. We’ll check what can work with your system. If backup matters, tell us what needs to stay on during a cut and for how long.

03

Living off-grid

A pump starting up and a fridge running overnight make different demands on a system. We work through the equipment you use, winter demand and any generator you have before sizing the panels and storage.

For businesses & farms

Start with your daytime load.

Operating hours, seasonal demand and separate meters can change the case for solar.

Battery storage & backup

Would a battery help here?

Compare storing surplus solar, backing up essential loads and managing site demand.

Solar on the hillside.

The roof is one option. Open ground can also give an array a clear view of the sun. Before recommending a position, we look at shading, access and the cable route back to the switchboard.

Questions, answered

Solar questions

Do I need a battery to install solar?

No. For a grid-connected site, we can compare panels alone with adding storage. The useful starting point is when you use power and how much generation you are likely to use on site.

Will the lights stay on in a power cut?

Backup needs to be designed for the loads you want to keep running. Tell us which ones matter and we’ll check what your inverter, battery and installation can support.

Can you look at a business with high daytime usage?

Yes. A current bill and interval data if available help us compare the load with expected generation. Include regular days closed, seasonal changes and planned equipment.

Existing solar

Something changed on your system?

If the app has gone offline, tell us what you see and whether the inverter shows a fault. For low output, include when it started and whether shading or your power use has changed. Leave covers closed.

Getting started

Tell us about your site.

Send the suburb or rural location, a recent power bill if you have one, and a photo of the roof or ground you have in mind. If you’re looking at backup or charging, let us know what you want to run.
